Kimio Hamasaki, an AES Fellow, is a producer and balance engineer for music recordings, a researcher in spatial audio, an educator in audio engineering and acoustics, and a consultant in audio engineering. He has recorded and produced numerous orchestral and operatic works with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bavarian State Opera, the NHK Symphony Orchestra, and other renowned international orchestras and opera companies in 2.0, 5.1, 9.1, 11.1, and 22.2 multichannel sound formats. He has developed digital audio recording equipment and innovative microphone techniques for natural immersive sound, such as the Hamasaki Square and Hamasaki Cube, as well as advanced spatial audio systems, including the 22.2 multichannel sound system. His recent research interests include immersive audio systems and sound recording techniques, as well as auditory models for natural sound reproduction through headphones, earphones, and loudspeakers, with the aim of developing next-generation audio recording and playback systems. He has extensive experience in international standardization related to audio technology, including work with the AES, SMPTE, and IEC. He currently serves as co-chair of the AES Technical Committee on Broadcasting and Online Delivery, vice-chair of the AES Technical Committee on Audio Production, and president of ARTSRIDGE LLC.
