About me
Jules career with audio and electronics started early. At 16 he built an analog synthesizer from a PAiA kit. While still in high school, he designed and built a mixing board then started doing sound for local bands.
Jules went to college, studied physics, and then joined the US Navy where he spent 20 years as a nuclear submariner. In between submarines, he was an instructor at the Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida. He taught Reactor Kinetics by day, and spent many a night in local recording studios. His analog compression and noise gate console modifications were used on an album for Deep Purple in the early 1990’s. Jules also published multiple DIY articles in EQ, Recording Magazine, Electronics Now, and other industry publications. He has 15 design licensing agreements with PAiA electronics for DIY kits.
In 2014, Jules began building microphones. He started experimenting with the internal electronics and building his own designs. Jules published his results along the way via Instructables. This culminated in an operational amplifier-based impedance converter that has 40db better THD than current solutions. This design was published in a paper at the 153rd AES convention. He continues his research into improving recording techniques focusing on the classic techniques of stereo techniques and how they are best applied or expanded upon for use with immersive audio.
